At Abbeyfield we believe older people deserve time and respect. It’s our mission and our privilege to provide the very best supported housing for all our residents, and to be a champion for older people. We have been a not-for-profit, charitable housing organisation for nearly 30 years. Throughout this time our residents have always been at the heart of the services we provide.
Abbeyfield in Burnley aims to enhance the lives of older people. We have two houses: one in Harriet Street and another in St. Stephen Street.
This type of housing is perfect for anyone capable of independent living who finds the upkeep of their own home is becoming a chore and wants to take life easier. Our two houses in Burnley, located close to local amenities, allow our residents to have their own private space with the facilities to make breakfast, snacks and drinks. Our friendly and welcoming communal indoor and outdoor areas provide a place for our residents to meet and spend time together, as well as being a great space to enjoy family visits.
Home cooked meals are served in our communal dining rooms at lunchtime and teatime, and are included in the rent our residents pay. So too are utility bills and council tax – gone is the worry of having bills to pay!
It’s important to us that our residents are completely happy with their decision to move into supported accommodation. That’s why we offer a mandatory two week trial to help them be certain that living at Abbeyfield Burnley is right for them before a tenancy is agreed. Of course, it often doesn’t take a full two weeks for people to feel completely at home with the Abbeyfield lifestyle and we’re always delighted when residents decide that our homes are the perfect place for them.
Potential residents are also welcome to come to our homes for mealtimes with a family member to get a feel for the Abbeyfield lifestyle and talk with our residents. This has proved popular as an ice breaker.
The Abbeyfield way of life suits people capable of independent living, within a communal environment. In situations when a resident becomes unable to cope on their own and requires more support and care, the Abbeyfield Burnley Society will sensitively begin the process of helping a resident move on to a residential care home – Abbeyfield Extra Care is among their options.
